Avalanche advisories to be posted this season inside Priest Lake's The Groomer.
Stay alert!
The IPNF Avalanche Center broadcasts a regional weekend avalanche advisory during the winter months. The advisory is compiled to inform backcountry recreationists of the current avalanche conditions. Unless noted otherwise, it is relevant for the entire IPNF for a three-day period, Friday through Sunday. Information for the advisory is obtained from National Weather Service data, SNOTEL sites in the mountains throughout the region, local ski areas (Schweitzer, Silver Mountain, Mt. Spokane, and Lookout Pass), and avalanche forecasters collecting information in the field. The advisory can be viewed here on our web page or by calling the forecast center in Coeur d' Alene at (208) 765-7323.

Artist Harold Balazs just turned 80 years old and he continues to create a legacy of art, which includes dozens of works of public art. You might have seen his work on the Kingdome, the Lincoln Building, at North Idaho College or by the INB Performing Arts Center. His work is everywhere in Spokane and around the Northwest. He is best known for his enamels--metal panels coated with fired glass--and his sculptures in metal and concrete. His work is mostly abstract and whimsical and his fertile mind continues to fuel new work. Spokesman Review

“It’s all about food and wine. It’s the only way to go,” expressed Co-Owner Ray Dilcox.
PRIEST RIVER— Residents can add one more reason to visit the historic and rejuvenated downtown area after the opening of the Italian based restaurant, Priest River Inn.
Owners Ray Dilcox and Jeep Reichman make their way to the Pend Oreille Valley via Spokane after a chance encounter with the storied building formerly known as River Pigs Inn.
“It was like it was supposed to happen,” stated Ray. The two found the building available while passing through the downtown area and had to have it, starting short negotiations immediately after.

As many of you may have noticed, a great deal of work has been achieved on the Highway 57 Corridor.
Clearing the right-of-way along the highway is being done through several timber sale contracts with the Forest Service: 57/Bearpaws, High Bridge/Outlet, and the Highway 57 Maintenance project. (The last contract will be put out in early 2009.)
It took over 3 years and the cooperation of many entities to achieve this necessary work meant to improve safety and reduce the risk of accidents. By opening the right-of-way and thinning the hazard zones, wildlife may be spotted, ice and snow will thaw more quickly and the probability of trees falling on the highway will be lessened.
For more information on the 57 Corridor Project, feel free to contact Liz Johnson-Gebhardt at 208-448-0210 or lizjg35@hotmail.com .
